Friends, Followers and Jesus

My Twitter account was suspended yesterday, and for those of you that follow me on Twitter, you know I follow the Twitter Golden Rule: "Tweet others the way you would want to be tweeted." Therefore, the cause of my suspension, like the limit on Mean Girls, does not exist. Frustrated, I have been calling/emailing Twitter, doing all that I can, and more, to get to the bottom of this sticky situation, for I am not able to see anything but my own tweets. As I was scrolling through my tweets, my eyes locked in on a tweet I had posted a while back that said: "I don't want to get wrapped up in social media and what's going on around me! I want to be wrapped up in GOD and what's going on around HIM!" Humbled, I began to smile because, as always, God was teaching me a lesson I had selfishly forgotten! After all, He is ALWAYS testing us!

You see, this world is not our home. It is solely a test for the next. As Rick Warren says in Purpose Driven Life, "at death you won't leave home - you'll GO home." It's so easy for us to get wrapped up in social media and becoming who the world wants us to be! I am extremely guilty of it, especially when it comes to social media such as Facebook and/or Twitter! As I sit here in awe of God's perfect timing, I am reminded that it doesn't matter how many friends you have on Facebook, and God isn't going to ask us how many followers we had on Twitter. He's going to ask what we did to make "FOLLOWERS" of Jesus Christ and what we did to show others "what a 'FRIEND' we [can] have in Jesus!" This doesn't mean we have to delete our accounts (I'll be making a new Twitter account) because they really are a blessing when it comes to keeping in touch with those we hold dear to our hearts, making each other laugh, sharing what God is doing in our lives, etc. - it's simply a way to remind us why we're here, what our mission is, and what we're doing to accomplish that mission! Though Twitter and Facebook are enjoyable, we must keep our focus on the One who equipped us with the ability to enjoy!
